The Paul Perry Orchestra is a Canadian dance band founded by tenor saxophonist Paul Perry back in 1939. The band toured and played for dancers all over the Western provinces until 1947 when Paul, with his brother Jim Guloien and pianist Geoff Hall, bought Varsity Hall at Sylvan Lake (South of Edmonton). The Paul Perry Orchestra performed there May to September each year until 1965. Many distinguished jazz musicians played in the band including Paul’s son PJ Perry, trumpeters Arnie Chycoski and Bobby Hales, pianists Chris Gage and Ron Johnston, and drummer Jerry Fuller. The last reunion of the band occurred in 1989 at the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival. The repertoire is American Popular Song, but with fresh, original swinging arrangements designed specifically for dancers.

P.J. Perry (alto saxophonist, tenor saxophonist, clarinetist, flutist, piccolo-player) was born on December 2, 1941 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. His father was prominent Western Canadian band leader Paul Perry, who began featuring his son playing saxophone in his band when P.J. was just 14 years old. In the ensuing years, P.J. has shared stages with countless jazz greats including Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Shaw, Michel Legrand, Pepper Adams, Kenny Wheeler, Tom Harrell, Rob McConnell, Slide Hampton, Herb Spanier, Bobby Shew, Fraser McPherson, Ellis Marsalis, Joe LaBarbera, Clarence “Big” Miller, and Red Rodney, and has long been recognized by critics, colleagues, and listeners as one of North America's premier saxophonists

Brad Shigeta is a Vancouver based trombonist, composer and bandleader. Originally from Winnipeg, he spent two decades based in New York City where he performed, recorded and toured the world with The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, The Duke Ellington Orchestra, Illinois Jacquet Big Band, Clifford Jordan Big Band, The Manhattan Ragtime Orchestra and Dave Holland’s Big Band among others. He is on faculty at the VSO School of music and can currently be heard in the lower mainland as bandleader with his Swingtime Band, Trombonanza and Bossa Nova trio featuring Oliver Gannon.
